Increasing Age Population

The increasing age of the population of Germany requires more healthcare professionals to cope with this demographic change.

Medical Careers

The shortage of physicians in Germany is a very good opportunity for foreign MDs to not only pursue a medical residency in the specialization of their choice, but also to either open their own clinic here or work in a hospital.

Physicians Needed

Immigration of foreign doctors is seen to provide relief in this major areas of concern in the German healthcare system. This provides excellent opportunities for Filipino MDs wanting to practice abroad.

Work-Life Balance

Germany is one of the countries with best work-life balance according to the OECD which allows doctors with families to spend time with their children and pursue their careers as MDs

Demographic Change

Germany has one of the oldest societies in the world. The proportion of the population over 67 years of age will increase by 42% in 2040.

Testimonials

"It was a gamble to come to Germany. I was already earning good money through moonlighting but after a while, I realized that I wanted to start my Residency. I tried to apply to the US but then Trump won and I thought that it would affect my application negatively. Suddenly my father sent me a Facebook link of Medical Residency in Germany. I found it a novel idea and started to do my own research. Unfortunately, most of the websites are in German and I have not seen any blog from a Filipino doctor. The first question that came to my mind could I work as a Physician in Germany. I sent an email to the link that my father sent me and found out that a medical degree in the Philippines is recognized but not equivalent to a German medical study. I had to study the German language first and then take the medical licensure examination.

When I arrived in Germany, I was extremely disappointed in the program that I was enrolled in. It was very expensive, and I was the only Filipino in the program. As I started my medical residency, I found other Filipino doctors and together we decided to help other Filipino doctors and guide them to navigate the path towards doing a medical residency in Germany.

I am currently completing my medical residency in Internal Medicine in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). "

Medical Resident, Internal Medicine, Germany

"I, together with our daughter, moved to Germany in May 2018 to be reunited with my wife, who came here first to pursue her doctoral degree in plant research. Prior to that, I visited her as a tourist in September 2016, where I first experienced the beauty of Germany. Initially, we did not plan to stay here for a long time since learning the German language was a big challenge.

Fortunately, we decided to stay here in Germany, and I continued learning the language. My wife has received her permanent residency (PR) permit and I will be able to apply for my own PR in July 2023. I started working in June 2021 as a medical resident in Anesthesiology in St. Marien Hospital in Düren since June 2021. "
